Current Opportunities:
Join the 'Creating Spaces Northwest Dumfries' creative team!
CLOSING DATE - 17/08/26
OutPost Arts is recruiting x4 EMBEDDED LEAD ARTISTS & x1 TRAIL MAPPER for a new, socially-engaged project - 'Creating Spaces NW Dumfries'.
Embedded Artists will work with a specific neighbourhood over x13 months - Sandside, Summerhill, Lochside or Lincluden - building meaningful creative relationships with local people and groups. The development/creation process will focus on improving wellbeing through creative expression, mindfulness, shared creative experiences, and empowerment. Together, you will co-design and deliver artworks and installations that reflect the diversity, culture, creativity and shared identity of NW Dumfries people. The artworks and installations will form an engaging Art & Wellbeing Trail, brought to life by a vibrant Trail Map - leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
The Embedded Artists' art practices must transfer to achieve a public installation, but you will also have access to a Supporting Artist budget to enhance project outcomes
The Trail Mapper will work across ALL x4 neighbourhoods, engaging a range of community and project partners to explore emerging themes in order to co-create accessible trail maps, a project identity and accessible signage designs.
Our key delivery partner is Lift D&G - a grassroots, community-led social enterprise based in Lochside, NW Dumfries born from local residents’ determination to tackle poverty, isolation, and disconnection in one of the top 3% most deprived areas in Scotland. Lift D&G has grown from a volunteer-led group into a multi-strand CIC with shops, an Art Cabin, a community garden, youth programmes, a caravan respite project, and annual events that engage hundreds of residents. Creativity and culture are embedded throughout Lift’s work, an exemplar of creative regeneration which won them a SURF 2025 award.
Cultivating a culture of peer support and collaboration, you'll work alongside a cohort of creatives including a Trail Mapper, Community Documenter and Project Documenter, and will receive support from a Project Coordinator & Creative Wellbeing Mentors. The Stove Network's What We Do Now team will provide creative placemaking mentoring, reflective training, and Artist guidance.
Creating Spaces NW Dumfries is one of 23 Culture Collective projects across Scotland that have been awarded funding, administered by Creative Scotland, to support a national network of creative practitioners, organisations and communities working collaboratively to shape the cultural life of their local areas.
