Dwayne Bell - Have Pen Will Travel, November 2019
Born and raised in Langholm, Dwayne Bell became a successful illustrator, working for prominent clients in the UK and USA whilst lecturing at University of Cumbria. With his role expanding to Head of Illustration, Dwayne's bus journey to work each day quickly became the only time he had free to draw in his sketchbook. This almost meditative practice has inadvertently led to a new chapter in his professional career after sharing his daily journal online. Several volumes of books featuring selected drawings from his X95 commute followed which now sell internationally. His Masters degree, which he recently passed with distinction. focused on this style of 'reportage' illustration; finding new ways to utilise observational skills to visually communicate new subject matter. and meanings and his PhD will expand upon this.
Have Pen Will Travel showcased his bus drawings alongside work from his Masters, featuring local Langholm people who work in and around the High Street and a collection of work around the subject of forestry - a subject close to home as his father runs a forestry company.
